This deliberate futility embodies a “negative presence”—a state of perpetual motion stripped of function, rendering the work a “non-functional entity” within industrialized systems. Yet these devices transcend their technical roles as vessels of power and control, serving as invisible memory nodes that archive both personal and collective histories while silently sustaining digital infrastructures. Channeling Jonathan Crary’s observation of our epochal shift from analog cognition to binary governance, the work interrogates how technology and art might redefine our relationship with the digital realm.
